They describe accessibility in learning as \u2018course materials, content delivery and learning activities are accessible for students with the widest possible range of abilities, operating within the widest possible range of environments, conditions, and circumstances\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b9.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what is a disability? Under the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/programs\/accessible-people-disabilities\/act-summary.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accessible Canada Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, disability means an impairment or functional limitation that reduces someone\u2019s full involvement in society because of barriers they face. For example, some kinds of impairments that people experience are physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication, and sensory<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8da82ad elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WCAG 2.1 covers a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible\u00b2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to a wider range of people with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section Important?\n<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics Canada estimates that one in every five Canadians over the age of 15 has a disability<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That means over 5.3 million people in Canada are living with a disability and having to navigate a world that is only now slowly beginning to understand accessibility and inclusivity.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a number of reasons accessibility is important in the workplace, and in employee training.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-055bae4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"055bae4\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-76189f1\" data-id=\"76189f1\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fcd0bd1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fcd0bd1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Accessibility is the law<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-43cbd72 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"43cbd72\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-bb0415a\" data-id=\"bb0415a\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82d77af elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"82d77af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2010, Canada committed to furthering the rights of persons with disabilities<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The development of the Accessible Canada Act is landmark federal legislation that aims to realize a barrier-free Canada by 2040.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the aims of the act is to prevent accessibility barriers in information and communication technologies, including digital content and the technologies used to access it. Requirements of this act, including web accessibility, will likely follow WCAG.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ec2bc8f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ec2bc8f\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ee392ab\" data-id=\"ee392ab\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75620ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"75620ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-image\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/programs\/accessible-canada.html\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"543\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/enableeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/ACA_large_visual_rep1_EN.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"Accessible Canada Act. Vision: Proactively eliminate and prevent barriers and ensure greater opportunities for persons with disabilities. More than 6 million Canadians aged 15 and over have a disability. Less than 60% of those aged 25 to 64 have jobs. Canadians with milder disabilities earn 12% less and those with even more severe disabilities earn 51% less and they are more likely to live in poverty.
